Entrepreneurship experience:
Before founding SEMSCIO, Colleen founded two companies in Clearwater, FL. One of these companies was Clean Fuel Cell Energy, LLC, a profitable renewable energy business that served scientists, engineers, and professors all over the world. The website featured more than 250 pages and attracted more than 10,000 visitors per month. Clean Fuel Cell Energy distributed and manufactured a wide range of products including fuel cell stacks, materials, chemicals, catalysts, test equipment, and educational kits.
Clean Fuel Cell Energy’s storefront was located in Clearwater, Florida, where it shipped its products internationally, and served more than 20 universities monthly. CFCE manufactured Teflon®-based carbon cloth, fuel cell catalyst coatings, fuel cell stacks, and electrolyzers for R&D purposes to universities and privately-held companies worldwide.
Dr. Spiegel’s other company was Modern Education, LLC, which was a monthly educational newspaper that was distributed to 300 locations in the Tampa Bay area.
Employers:
As an employee, Dr. Spiegel worked as a scientist and engineer for companies such as Bausch & Lomb, Catalent Pharma Solutions, and Draper Laboratory.
Consultant:
Dr. Spiegel has been a consultant for over 170 companies during her career. Over 150 of these have been directly related to helping companies with non-dilutive funding, business strategy, and engineering & scientific recommendations.
Teaching experience:
Dr. Spiegel has been an adjunct professor for St. Petersburg College in the Tampa Bay area since 2016 for various chemistry, physics, and engineering technology courses.
Incubator and accelerator experience:
Dr. Spiegel has been part of the University of Tampa business accelerator program, the PASCO EDU business incubator program, the DawnBreaker Phase 0 program, and has been a consultant for Larta’s CAP program.

Dr. Spiegel has authored many titles including scientific and engineering textbooks: ‘Designing and Building Fuel Cells’ (McGraw-Hill, 2007), and ‘PEM Fuel Cell Modeling and Simulation Using MATLAB’ (Elsevier Science, 2008), in-depth market research books ‘Opportunities for Coal-Based Products’ (BCC Research, 2006) and Global Electronics:
